The future of unions

My gut feel (or is it a hope?) is that unions have a larger part in New Zealand and the world’s future. I like the idea of creating a character, steeped in the union movement as they try and change society.

If unions regain strength, and they are still strong in areas such as healthcare, it is interesting to think ahead, forecast the reaction of the status quo. The recent decision of P&O is, I think, a brazen admission of how the status quo intends to work. To paraphrase their decision - We will be replacing salaried workers able to feed their families with cheaper, precarious workers who, through the situations in which they find themselves, have less options.

Humans as expendable, bullyable, docile factors of production has never been laid so bare. What will society do?
